Historic Center of Florence

9.22.2010

In case you were interested...

As I mentioned before our schools and apartment - so pretty much the general area we stay in - is all part of the historic center of Florence. This is the area bordered by red, with contemporary Florence surrounding it.

This is a zoomed in map of the area we trek from day to day. Just thought maybe you'd like a mental picture or tour.

I will explain the small, distinct dots first, from left to right:

*The left-most purple dot is the 1 euro Gelatoria we tend to frequent.
*The red dot is our apartment.
*The pink dot is the little corner store where we go now and then to find little odds and ends for cooking.
*At the top is a turquoise dot, that is where our cooking class is at Apicius.
*Also at the top, the royal blue dot is the new art facility where Cody has his water color class
*Back in the middle is an orange dot. That is Squola, where we have our Italian language classes. This is also where our study abroad officer's office is located.
*The lime green dot at the bottom is FUA & DIVA where I have my photography and fashion design classes.
*The dark green dot just above it is the FUA main campus where the computer lab is.
*The burgundy dot at the way right is not quite correct but quite close to where Ganzo, the restaurant/Apicius library is located.

Now for the sort of, general area/fuzzy dots.
*The yellow one is the train station
*The purple sploch is one of the open markets where we like to shop
*The blue-ish one in the middle is the Duomo where we went to church
*The Red one is the Uffizi which is a really cool place with a bunch of statues, we need to learn more about it but it's also significant to the Medici
*Below that is an orange sploch marking the Ponte Vecchio, the gold artisans' bridge.

There you have it! Welcome to our home for the semester.
